As part of Nechville’s “Phantom” series of banjos, the Midnight combines a number of innovative modern features with a traditional banjo design.
The maple rim is equipped with Nechville’s Cyclotronic tone ring system, which mounts the tone ring on a series of 80 ball bearings. This setup provides increased resonance and easier adjustment of the head tension.
A compound radius fingerboard with wide frets gives the Phantom an almost electric guitar-like level of playability.
The Phantom Midnight’s mahogany neck features a tunneled fifth string, which keeps all tuning machines on the headstock and creates a more streamlined neck.
Includes hardshell case.

Hybrid Tone Ring
This Phantom features Nechville's new Hybrid tone ring. It combines a wooden Timber-Tronic ring with a metal tone hoop.
The result is a banjo that is about 2.5 lbs lighter with a tone that offers a beautiful balance between a bright brass ring and the woody Timber-Tronic ring.
Here's what Nechville has to say about the Hybrid ring:
We’ve turned our Timber-Tronic rings to accept a mounted soft metal hoop. This adds a familiar metallic chime and just enough mass to increase the depth of sound.
These have been very popular, and are becoming renowned as an ultralight replacement for the traditional bronze flathead ring.
Like our other tone rings, it fits any Nechville Heli-Mount model with our cyclotronic ball bearing system.
Hybrid has more high harmonic content than our standard 20 hole bronze ring, but is very balanced. And it still shaves pounds off the weight of your banjo at a fraction of the weight of its bronze counterpart.
