Northfield "Big Mon" F-style mandolin with Engelmann spruce top and optional wide nut.
The Big Mon's body is about 5mm wider at the widest point and a bit deeper in some spots. While it doesn't look a whole lot bigger, it offers a tone that's warmer, louder, and all-around bigger than a standard F-style body.
This mandolin has been customized with a 1-3/16" wide nut. This is 1/16" wider than a stander 1-1/8" nut, a difference of approximately 5%.
For the full story on these amazing mandolins, we recommend checking out the official Northfield Big Mon product page.
This Northfield Big Mon has an Engelmann spruce top, which offers a slightly warmer, sweeter tone than the Adirondack models.
It still has plenty of power and volume, but to our ears it's a bit less bright than Adirondack and would be a great choice for players seeking a somewhat mellower sound.
