Northfield NFO-AT2 archtop octave mandolin with maple back and sides.
Based on a 30's archtop guitar, these octave mandolins are one of Northfield's most unique offerings.
With a voice that falls somewhere between a guitar and a standard mandolin, they've proven popular with mandolins players seeking a new sound without the need to learn a new instrument.
Northfield's archtop octave mandolins are currently offered in two variations. The NFO-AT1 has mahogany back and sides, while the NFO-AT2 features flame maple back and sides.
Broadly speaking, the mahogany models tend to be a bit more mellow and sweet while the maple version is slightly more bright and crisp. With that said, we've found that the differences between the two varieties are subtle, and both varieties sound amazing!
