Northfield's mandolins offer amazing craftsmanship, superb playability, and a rich, throaty voice, making them tough to beat at any price.
The NFS-F2EWN is part of Northfield's S-Series. These mandolins are simply appointed but beautifully crafted, with a style that is traditional yet unique.
Tonally, Northfield has done a remarkable job of reproducing the complex, played-in quality you'd expect from a 100-year-old instrument. Northfield's mandolins are big, warm, and powerful--it's a tone that you can feel as much as hear.

Engelmann Spruce Top
This Northfield F2S has an Engelmann spruce top, which offers a slightly warmer, sweeter tone than the Adirondack models.
It still has plenty of power and volume, but to our ears it's a bit less bright than Adirondack and would make a good choice for players seeking a somewhat mellower sound.
Northfield's oval hole mandolins have a somewhat more warm and open voice than their F-hole counterparts. It's a design that's well-suited for melodic genres like classical, jazz, or blues.
While the oval hole certainly helps shape the mandolin's tone, the NFS-F2 is still a Northfield at heart and delivers plenty of the rich, throaty sound they're famous for.
This mandolin has been customized with a 1-3/16" wide nut. This is 1/16" wider than a standard 1-1/8" nut, a difference of approximately 5%.
