Northfield's mandolins offer beautiful craftsmanship, superb playability, and a rich, throaty voice, making them tough to beat at any price.
The NFS-F5EW is part of Northfield's S-Series. These F-style mandolins are simply appointed but beautifully crafted, with a style that is both traditional yet unique.
Tonally, Northfield has done a remarkable job of reproducing the complex, played-in quality you'd expect from a 100-year-old instrument. Northfield's mandolins are big, warm, and powerful--it's a tone that you can feel as much as hear.
This mandolin features an Engelmann spruce top, which offers a slightly warmer, sweeter tone than the Adirondack models. To our ears, the difference between Engelmann and Adirondack is subtle, but players seeking a somewhat mellower voice may want to consider the Engelmann top.
In addition to the Engelmann top, this mandolin has been customized with a 1-3/16" wide nut. Compared to a standard 1-1/8" mandolin nut, this model is 1/16" wider, which is a difference of approximately 5%.
Includes gray Airloom Recurve hard case.
Note: This model was previously known as the F5S. Northfield has recently adopted a new naming system to make the model names more descriptive.
