Northfield's mandolins offer beautiful craftsmanship, superb playability, and a rich, throaty voice, making them tough to beat at any price.
The NFS-F5WN is part of Northfield's S-Series and was previously known as the F5S. These F-style mandolins are simply appointed but beautifully crafted, with a style that is both traditional yet unique.
Tonally, Northfield has done a remarkable job of reproducing the complex, played-in quality you'd expect from a 100-year-old instrument. Northfield's mandolins are big, warm, and powerful--it's a tone that you can feel as much as hear.
This mandolin features an Adirondack spruce top, which we feel offers slightly more power and projection than the Engelmann models. To our ears, the difference between the two tonewoods is subtle, but players looking for a little more volume and clarity should consider the Adirondack top.
This F5S has an optional with a 1-3/16" wide nut. Compared to a standard 1-1/8" mandolin nut, this model is 1/16" wider, a difference of about 5%.
Includes gray Airloom Recurve hard case.
